Gwynneth VanLaven is an artist and teacher living in Northern Virginia.  Her modes of inquiry and art making include photography, installation, writing, performance, and social engagement.  She received her BA from Knox College in Multimodal Language: Verbal Visual, and Kinesic Systems (an independent, interdisciplinary major).  In 2010 she received her MFA from George Mason University in Critical Art Practice, also an interdisciplinary study.  She loves languages of all kinds, and has a special love for photography as language.  VanLaven’s visual and written work has been in numerous exhibitions and publications including in the Washington Post and at the Smithsonian Institution in 2010, and in the scholarly journal Performance Research and at the Kennedy Center in 2011.
